Instruments
We mainly perform low-temperature nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements with a high-pressure technique. Belows are our research instruments.
NMR spectrometers
No. 1
This was for low-frequency (1–50 MHz) NMR measurements and has retired.

No. 2
This is specialized for zero-field NQR measurements and is used for low temperature measurements down to 4 K combined with a GM cooler. The spectrometer is applicable for a wide frequency range of 3–400 MHz, but we now (in 2022) mainly use it for lower-frequency measurements (about 3–20 MHz). We have recently succeeded in measuring a spectrum above 30 MHz using a newly-developed higher-frequency NQR probe.

No. 3
This is the main NMR instrument in our laboratory. This is used for NMR measurements upto 9 T and down to 2 K using Physical Properties Measurement System (PPMS) by Quantum Design.

Refrigerators
GM cooler
This is the 4 K Gifford-McMahon (GM) cooler by Sumitomo Heavy Industries, and the lowest temperature is about 3 K. This refrigerator can operate using only electricity and water (without He supply). We at first suffered from the temperature oscillation with the amplitude of 0.2 K, but this has been improved after various efforts. This is used for NQR measurements and pressure calibration.

Instruments for pressure application
Indenter-type cells
They are main pressure cells in our laboratory. We have small (max. 4.8 GPa) and large (max. 4.2 GPa) pressure cells.

Opposed-type anvil cell
Maximum pressure is about 6 GPa.

Manipulator
It consists of an optical microscope and needles for setting high pressure cell.

Coil manufacturing system
It consists of a microscope, motor, bobbin holder, and a rod to make an NMR coil.

10-ton press
It is used to produce the pressure of cells.

Cutter
This is mainly used for cutting a Ni-Cr-Al alloy rod for the pressure cell parts.

Machine tools
Desktop lathe
This is a product of Sakai Machine Tool (ML-360). It is a small and easy-to-use machine. This is used to make parts of pressure cells.

Lathe
This large desktop lathe is a product of Cosmo Kikai. This machine has been installed in the machine room of the faculty.

Milling machine
This large desktop milling machine is a product of Cosmo Kikai.
